# Discord Ticket Transcripts: Save, Export, Share

> How Discord ticket transcripts work: automatic transcripts on close, the transcript command, HTML, PDF, and CSV exports, private links, and retention.

## What a ticket transcript is

A transcript is a saved copy of a ticket conversation: every message, who sent it, and when. Servers keep transcripts to review past support, settle disputes, and train new staff.

## Automatic transcripts when a ticket closes

When transcripts are enabled, TicketCord posts the transcript to the channel you choose under Transcripts in the dashboard as soon as a ticket closes, and the ticket log channel gets an entry.

- Pick the channel under Transcripts, for example #ticket-transcripts.
- Closing a ticket silently still creates the transcript; it only skips the direct message to the creator.
- If no transcript channel is set, the transcript command reports error TC011.

## On demand with the transcript command

Staff can run the transcript command in any ticket to generate an HTML transcript.

- Send it to the default transcript channel, another staff channel, or a member's direct messages.
- The evidence option adds Discord IDs and message links. Evidence transcripts can only go to staff members or staff-only channels.

## Exporting from the dashboard

Open a ticket in the dashboard and choose Export to download it as HTML, JSON, CSV, or PDF with a default, compact, or detailed template. Select several tickets to export up to 50 at once, or 10 as PDF, delivered as a zip file.

## Who can open a transcript

Transcript links on ticketcord.com are private. They open only for a dashboard account with access to that ticket's bot, so a copied link does not expose the conversation.

## How long transcripts are kept

TicketCord keeps closed-ticket content according to the retention policy you choose. Free can delete content on close or keep it for 30 or 90 days; paid plans add 180 days, 365 days, and manual deletion. A policy applies to tickets created after it takes effect. Transcript files already posted to a Discord channel stay in that channel.

## Building transcripts yourself

If you run your own discord.js bot, community libraries such as discord-html-transcripts can render a channel's messages into an HTML file. You then store the files, control who can open them, and delete them on schedule yourself. A hosted ticket bot handles generation, private links, and retention for you.
